Thanksgiving Reflection – More than puppets.

If one were to spend 24 hours a day, everyday of the year, thanking God, it would not be enough.

Thanksgiving provides an official, nationwide day to thank God for His bounty, grace, mercy, love and care. One can easily find a thousand reasons to be grateful.

Today, I would like to reflect on a sentence I heard during a thanksgiving exercise.

As everyone took a turn to express their gratitude, the following words hit a cord:

“Thank you, God, for not treating us like puppets.”

It was said by a second grader, in my Sunday School class.

A young child has grasped one of the greatest gifts that God bestowed on us:

We are free to choose whether to worship Him or not, whether to love Him or not, whether to follow Him or not.

We were created in His image, with a free will; not like puppets moved by strings.

‘For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.’ Galatians 5:13

This Thanksgiving, I want to thank God for the gift of service, as I learn from my students far more than I ever teach them.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving dear readers.

After graduating with a Major in Journalism, Mireille’s career path took an unexpected turn away from her beloved pen and paper. It took an equally unexpected turn of events for Mireille to start writing again. After spending many hours (too many!) watching super hero cartoons with her son, she realized that most Christian children are unaware of their superpowers! She set about creating the SuperHolies: the Fruits of the Holy Spirit re-imagined as superpowers to grab the children’s attention and teach them about their faith and its glory.
