Blessed Fast of Jonah, dear friends
I had previously written a post about how the story of Jonah inspires me: you can read the post here. This year, I was reflecting on the “3 days in the belly of the fish”.
Total darkness.
Total darkness.
Completely detached from the world. In a cocoon with only one thing to do: pray!
Can you imagine 3 days of stillness in communication with our Lord?
Would I (ever) be able to sit in absolute stillness for 3 days? 3 hours even?
How many distractions compete for my attention?
How many distractions do I allow to creep into my life and thus justify my excuse of “not enough time to devote to praying and reading the scriptures”?
As I ponder the answers to these questions, I am comforted by the story, yet again: our Lord is always looking to give us one more chance to return to His loving arms, even when we are running in the opposite direction.
In Christ,
Mireille
