Blessed Feast of the Consecration of the Church of the Honorable Cross!
Empress Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, is a Saint that I have long admired. I draw great inspiration from her life and her quest for the Honorable Cross.
In a time when travelling was difficult, fraught with dangers, and in her advanced age, she took it upon herself to travel to Jerusalem to locate the Cross of our Lord.
While I sometimes find it difficult to wake up early on Sunday morning to reach Church on time. My voyage is less than 15 minutes by car, and I travel along a scenic route where the only danger is the lack of caffeine in my body. More a danger to society than to myself!
May her example and her blessings be with us all.
Here is her biography: Life of Empress Helena
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” Luke 9:23-24.
